Body of missing 18-year-old pregnant woman found in Rehoboth

REHOBOTH, Mass. (WJAR) — Police said the body of 18-year-old Kylee Monteiro, who was reported missing nearly two weeks ago, has been found on the property of her boyfriend.

Bristol County District Attorney Tom Quinn announced Tuesday evening that human remains “consistent with those of 18-year-old Kylee Monteiro” were discovered at 107 County Street, the home of her boyfriend, 22-year-old Gregory Groom.

Monteiro was reported missing on Aug. 7 by Groom. Investigators said the two had been in a relationship, and she was last seen at his County Street residence. Authorities also confirmed that Monteiro was about 11 weeks pregnant.

NBC 10’s Leanna Faulk reports after police find the body of a missing pregnant woman.

Her family had told NBC 10 News she was excited to become a mother and had already picked out a baby name. They said she had recently graduated from Attleboro High School and was looking for her first job.

Monteiro’s relatives described her as about 6 feet tall, heavy set, with light brown hair and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing a red T-shirt with the phrase “Get Over It” printed on the front, ripped blue jeans, and tan boots. She may have also been carrying a white bag with her belongings inside.

Her family said it was unusual for her not to be in constant contact. They told NBC 10 that Monteiro didn’t have survival instincts, was always on her phone, posting on social media, and calling her sisters for advice.

Quinn said extensive searches were conducted by the Massachusetts State Police before investigators obtained a warrant for the property.

“As a result of the search for the property, human remains consistent with those of Kylee Monteiro have been recovered,” Quinn said. “We await confirmation from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.”

Groom was charged earlier Tuesday with aggravated assault and battery on a pregnant person, intimidation of a witness, and domestic assault and battery. Prosecutors said those charges stem from acts committed against Monteiro on Aug. 6 at the County Street home.

Quinn said Groom will also face a murder charge.

“Based on the current state of the evidence that has been obtained during the investigation, Gregory Groom will be charged with the murder of Kylee Monteiro and the defendant will be arraigned tomorrow in Taunton District Court,” he said.
